Derek Vanderkooy - Photographer
Derek Vanderkooy is the owner and operator of Dekooy Images. Growing up in Vancouver BC helped develop his love and interest for the mountain scene. In 1999 he became an apprentice for Don Cole Harvey Photography at Mike Wiegele Helicopter skiing located in the heart of the Cariboo and Monashee mountain range. Here he was able to develop his photography skills and turn his interest into a passion. Upon finishing his apprentice, Derek moved to Whistler where he worked for Coast Mountain Photography. There he was able to extend his skills even further in to the corporate, wedding and family portraiture world, becoming a more diverse photographer.
After completing his guiding, first aid and avalanche certificate, Derek returned to Mike Wiegele’s where he teamed up with Certain Images Photography. He became a guide, assisting guests through the mountains every day. After 6 years Derek has obtained his level 2 CSGA guide and has become the senior photographer for the company Certain Images.
Summer seasons are spent in the Coast Mountain range, near Vancouver, Whistler and Squamish where he continues to shoot. Derek looks forward to working with you to create an image that can best suite your needs.
